DUNEDIN CHAPTER
MONTHLY MEETING
Sunday 5th April 2009
Leapark Hotel, Grangemouth
Welcome
George McGuire welcomed everyone to the meeting. A special welcome was given to new members Scott and Lisa McNeill and Phil and Christine O’Kane.
Membership
Membership now stands at 240 as at 5 April.
North Section Dance
George reported the North Section Dance, held in Aberdeen and arranged by Paul and Lorraine Bailey was another great success. £1200 had been raised and will be given to the Anchor Unit at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Scottish Bike Show
Another great success. The chapter stand was as popular as ever with members and non members alike. The aim of our attendance was to meet and greet and gave all the ability to catch up with those we hadn’t seen for some time.
Party at Porty
Attendance for the party was around 50-60 people. This was a bit disappointing, but all who attended has a fantastic time. Thanks go to George, Steve and Carol Collins, Ian and Christine Bruce for organising and to Disco Dave Talbot for a brilliant night’s music.
Paintball
George thanked Matt Blair for organising the previous week’s paintball. Although not an official chapter event, a number of members attended and fun was had by all, albeit painful.
Events Calendar
A list of events had now been placed on the Chapter web site and will be updated and added to as the riding season progresses.
Dealership
George (in Kirk’s absence) reported that EHD was now getting extremely busy. Claire was on maternity leave and Caroline, who has replaced her while she is off will be retained on the merchandising when Claire returns. Due to their increase in business, EHD have commissioned a second van. This will offer more flexibility when picking up and dropping off bikes.
Chapter Tartan
Stuart reported that only 50yds of material were left which equates to around six men’s kilts. The chapter will commission another bale.
Thunder in the Glens (TITG)
George announced that the “Towavan” belonging to Duncan McKenzie (Beechgrove) has been donated to the Chapter and will be painted to reflect Dunedin Chapter and Thunder in the Glens. Thanks goes to Duncan for this generous gift. Jane Blair proposed that in recognition of this gift from Duncan the Chapter should make a donation to a charity of Duncan’s choice. It was agreed a donation of £250 would be made.
Pre-Registration
George announced that pre registration now stood at 900. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.
Clanadonia
Stuart announced that as well as taking part in the rally on the Saturday night, the group are to play throughout the rally weekend at no extra cost.
Homecoming Scotland
George reported that after talks with the Scottish Government, efforts were now being made to add TITG to the official list of Homecoming Scotland events. George is in talks to organise attendance by the Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond.
T-Shirt Design
George passed round the ‘draft’ t-shirt design. Overall members weren’t too keen on it. George and Stuart will look into redesigning.
Fencing, toilets and showers
Donald advised all fencing will arrive on the Wednesday prior to TITG. The fencing will be dropped at various points around the campsite to give those erecting the fencing an easier job.
The toilets have been arranged at the same price as last year. As before these will be cleaned twice daily.
Donald has arranged six individual shower blocks. They will be unisex and will also be cleaned twice daily.
Security
The same company used at last year’s event has been booked for this year. They will cover the secure parking and the campsite and lighting will be provided for the secure parking.
Portable Lifts
Ross Jamieson has donated portable hand operated industrial lifts to assist in moving the fencing. Thanks to Ross for this.
Promotional DVD
George announced that a promotional DVD has been made and is available to members for £2 each. Thanks to Dez Urban for putting this together and to Ross Jamieson for making the copies.
Hog in the Byre
George confirmed that the Hog Roast will be booked again for this event. A country and western theme has been chosen and Disco Dave will provide the entertainment.
Merchandise
An order for Chapter merchandise will be placed this week and hopefully won’t take too long to arrive.
Rideout Guidelines
George reported that the ride out guidelines on the website were somewhat out of date. These were in the process of being revamped and they would be placed on the website in the next few weeks. All members are urged to read these and familiarise themselves with them. Thanks to the Road Captains for their work in revamping the guidelines.
